BAMBURGH CASTLE CYCLE SPORTIVE – Spring 2026 

We return to the majestic Bamburgh Castle in Spring 2026 for the 6th year of this popular North East Cycle Sportive!

With three routes to choose from, there’s something for everyone. The 50km ride is perfect for beginners and those taking on their first sportive, the 100km ride is our most popular option for novice and experienced cyclists, and for those seeking a bigger challenge, the 100-mile route is designed for intermediate to experienced riders.

Event Distances

All routes will be sent upon registration with GPX download links and will be fully signed.

The Highway Code must always be adhered to, and helmets are compulsory.

Route Details

50km Cycle Sportive

  • Starting and finishing in Bamburgh
  • Relatively flat, perfect for beginners
  • Route includes Seahouses, Beadnell, and Embleton with views of Dunstanburgh Castle
  • Approx. elevation: 1,200ft

100km Cycle Sportive

  • Starting and finishing in Bamburgh
  • Route includes Seahouses, Embleton, Alnmouth, Warkworth, Amble, and Acklington
  • Approx. elevation: 2,800ft

100 Mile Cycle Sportive

  • Moderately hilly circular route along the Northumberland coast
  • Includes all of the 100km route plus an inland section to Alnwick and Eglingham
  • Approx. elevation: 5,200ft

Feed Stations

  • 100km & 100 Mile – Feed station at Acklington (drinks, pastries, cakes, chocolate, sweets)
  • 100 Mile only – Additional feed station at 78 miles
  • Portable toilets at feed stations & public toilets along the route
  • 50km – No feed station, but savoury and sweet snacks will be available at the finish

Start Times

Riders can start any time between 7:00am – 8:30am.

All riders must have left the event venue by 8:30am.

Timing

Live Chip Timing will be provided by Timing Up North.

The Finish

All finishers receive:

  • Wild Deer merchandise
  • Medal
  • Snacks and drinks

Age Restrictions

Due to the event being on open roads, the minimum age to participate is 17.
