Hanningfield Reservoir Open Water Swim – Saturday 16th May 2026 

Wild Deer Events are excited to return to Essex for a very special opportunity to swim in the breathtaking Hanningfield Reservoir – a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) – on Saturday 16th May 2026!

Nestled between Billericay and Chelmsford, Hanningfield Waterside Park offers a truly unique experience. With access rarely granted for open water swimming, this is your chance to enjoy a swim surrounded by mature woodlands and expansive views across the 870-acre reservoir.

This beautiful and tranquil venue also features scenic walking trails, bird hides, ponds, and a café – making it a great spot for both participants and spectators.

Event Distances

• 750m Open Water Swim
• 1,500m Open Water Swim (2 laps of the marked 750m course)

All swims will take place within a clearly marked course, supported by safety boats and first aid at the water’s edge.

Wetsuit Policy

We anticipate the water temperature will be warm enough that wetsuits are optional, but we recommend wearing one for added comfort and buoyancy, especially for less experienced swimmers.

Timing

The event will feature Live Chip Timing, provided by Timing Up North, for accurate and real-time results.

The Finish Line

All swimmers will receive:

• A bespoke Event Medal
• Wild Deer Merchandise
• A drink and snack to refuel

T-Shirt Option

A custom Wild Deer event t-shirt is available as an optional extra during registration for £12.

Parking

Free Parking is available on-site for all participants.

Dogs at the Venue

Please note: Due to the ecological sensitivity of the site (SSSI), dogs are not permitted anywhere around the reservoir.
