SWIM DERWENT 2026 – Sunday 12th July

We are delighted to confirm the return of SWIM DERWENT, taking place on Sunday 12th July 2026 at the spectacular Derwent Reservoir near Consett!

Hosted in partnership with the Castle Triathlon Club of Prudhoe and Northumbrian Water, this much-loved open water swimming event offers a fantastic experience for everyone — from beginners to seasoned swimmers — in a safe and supportive environment. With full safety cover including boats and first aid, you're in safe hands throughout the day.

About the Venue

Event Distances

Choose from the following swim distances:

  •  400m
  • ½ mile
  • 1 mile
  • 3.2km
  • 5km

Note: The 400m, ½ mile, and 1 mile will be single marked routes. The 3.2km and 5km swims will be completed over multiple laps.

Start Times

We expect the start times for all swims to be between 9:00am and 10:00am. Exact start times for each distance will be confirmed closer to the event date.

Wetsuit Policy

We anticipate that water temperatures will be warm enough to make wetsuits optional. However, we do recommend wearing a wetsuit for comfort and buoyancy, especially for less experienced swimmers.

If you choose to swim without a wetsuit, a tow float is compulsory.

Timing

Live Chip Timing will be provided by Timing Up North, offering accurate and real-time results.

The Finish Line

All finishers will receive:

  • A bespoke event medal
  • Wild Deer merchandise (buff or bottle)
  • A post-swim snack and drink

Parking

Parking is available at Derwent Waterside Park for all participants and is charged at £3 per vehicle. Please note there is a 10–15 minute walk from the car park to the event area.

Mark your calendars – Sunday 12th July 2026 – and we’ll see you lakeside!
